# Instant navigation in wp-admin

> Bring ajax navigation to your WordPress dashboard, which screens it skips, and why to leave it off on WordPress 7.0 and newer. (Pro, beta)

**Enable SPA for Admin Dashboard** does for wp-admin what AjaxPress does for your site: dashboard screens change without a full reload, and settings save in place. It only affects the dashboard. Visitors see no difference.

It's under **Settings → AjaxPress → Basic**, needs [AjaxPress Pro](https://arraystory.com/docs/ajaxpress/ajaxpress-pro/), and is off by default. It's marked **Beta**: it works with WordPress's own screens, but some plugins' screens may not cope with it.

## WordPress 7.0 and newer: not needed

WordPress 7.0 navigates the dashboard by itself. Running AjaxPress's dashboard navigation on top of it would mean two navigators on the same screen, and they can conflict. So on WordPress 7.0 and newer the setting isn't shown, and it stays off even if it was on before you updated.

On older versions, it's the only way to get instant dashboard page loads.

## Turn it on

Flip **Enable SPA for Admin Dashboard**. It saves straight away, and the settings screen reloads so the change takes effect.

## Screens that always load normally

Some dashboard screens need a real page load, so AjaxPress leaves them alone:

- **Updates**: WordPress, plugin and theme updates
- **Activating and deactivating** plugins, and activating themes
- **Installing** plugins and themes
- The **plugin and theme file editors**
- **Export** and **Import**
- **Site Health**
- The **Customizer**
- **Application password** approval
- Anything that submits to `options.php` or `admin-post.php`
- **Page builder editors**: Elementor, Divi, Bricks and the others always open as normal pages

Moving between the dashboard and your site's front end is always a normal page load too, so a front-end player never follows you into wp-admin.

## If something breaks

Turn it off first. It's the quickest test, and it only affects the dashboard.

| Symptom | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| A page builder's editor won't load | Turn it off. Bricks and Divi 5 are the usual cases |
| A plugin's settings page looks broken or won't save | Turn it off, and tell us which plugin |
| The screen flashes or navigates twice (WordPress 7.0+) | Turn it off. WordPress already does this |

When you report a problem, include your WordPress version and the plugin whose screen misbehaved. See [Report a problem](https://arraystory.com/docs/ajaxpress/report-a-problem/).
