Instant navigation
On this page
Instant navigation is the core of AjaxPress: pages change without a full browser reload. It is on as soon as the plugin is active. This page explains the main switch and what it covers.
The main switch
Settings → AjaxPress → Basic → Enable SPA for Frontend turns ajax navigation on or off for your whole site. It saves the moment you flip it. Turn it off and your site behaves exactly as it would without AjaxPress, while your other settings are kept for when you turn it back on.
What it covers
- Links to other pages on your site.
- Forms: contact forms, search, comments, filters, WooCommerce cart and checkout forms. They submit without reloading the page.
- Logins and registration, including
wp-login.phpand the WooCommerce My Account forms. A failed login shows its error in place. - Back and Forward: each page change adds exactly one entry to the browser history, so the Back button goes where visitors expect.
- The address bar and tab title, which always show the page on screen.
Some links and forms are deliberately left to load the normal way. See Which links AjaxPress handles and Forms.
The other navigation settings
Each of these has its own page:
| Setting | Plan | Use it to |
|---|---|---|
| Enable Prefetch | Pro | Start loading a page while the visitor hovers its link |
| Load Frontend Normally for Admins | Free | Browse your own site without AjaxPress while logged in |
| Full Page Reload on Login & Registration | Free | Give sign-in forms a real page load |
| Block Keyboard Reload | Pro | Stop an accidental F5 from restarting a player |
| Enable SPA for Admin Dashboard | Pro | Bring instant navigation to wp-admin |
| Scroll to Top Smoothly | Free | Glide each new page up to the top (on the Animations tab) |
| Exclude Links | Free | Send chosen pages through a normal page load (on the Advanced tab) |
Where AjaxPress never runs
- wp-admin, unless you turn on SPA for Admin Dashboard. Moving between the front end and the dashboard is always a normal page load, so a front-end player never follows you into the dashboard.
- Page builder editors and the Customizer preview. AjaxPress recognises Elementor, Divi, Bricks, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Breakdance, WPBakery, Visual Composer, Zion, Thrive Architect, Brizy and the Customizer, and steps aside completely.
- Search engine crawlers, which get plain pages. See What AjaxPress does.
