Purge the cache

On this page

Purging removes pages from Cloudflare’s cache, so the next visitor gets a fresh copy from your server, which is then cached again. Most of the time you don’t need to do it yourself.

Automatic: when you edit

When you publish or update a post or page, AjaxPress clears it from Cloudflare, along with the pages that list it:

  • the post or page itself;
  • your home page;
  • its post type’s archive (such as the blog page, or the shop for a product);
  • its category and tag pages;
  • its author’s page.

So a new blog post appears on your home page and in its categories straight away.

Purge one page

From the admin bar. While logged in, open the page on your site, then click the cloud icon in the admin bar and choose Purge This Page. (Choosing it from inside the dashboard purges your home page.)

From the Cache tab. On Settings โ†’ AjaxPress โ†’ Cache, type the page’s full address into the purge box, such as https://example.com/about/, and click Purge.

Use the full address, starting with https://. The purge box doesn’t accept paths or wildcards, even though its hint suggests /blog/*: Cloudflare only clears complete addresses. To clear a whole section, use Purge All.

Purge everything

Purge All on the Cache tab, or Purge Everything in the admin bar’s cloud menu, clears every cached page.

  • It clears everything Cloudflare has cached for your domain, including images, CSS and JavaScript files that Cloudflare cached on its own. They’re fetched again as needed.
  • Your server gets more traffic for a while, as pages are cached again. On a busy site, avoid doing it at peak times.
  • The admin bar’s Purge Everything doesn’t ask for confirmation.

When should I purge?

  • After changing your theme, menus, widgets or site-wide settings. These appear on every page, but aren’t tied to one post, so they aren’t purged automatically. Use Purge All.
  • After changing a page in a way WordPress doesn’t see as an edit, such as a plugin’s settings that change what a page shows. Purge that page.
  • If a page looks out of date. Purge it, then reload.
